The challenge God lays before each of us is also an invitation.
Are we willing to leave what we think is reality for the sake of knowing God?
“Truth is a kingdom which belongs to those who give themselves to it, lead where it may, cost what it will, use or not use,” wrote Pastor Ralph Sockman.
By faith, Moses left Egypt and endured years of failure in the wilderness. Yet, he persevered “because he saw Him who is invisible”(Hebrews 11:27).
He could have given up, decided it was too much, this God stuff. After all, a pretty big responsibility was being laid on him: freeing his people from slavery. But Moses persevered, not because he was such a strong, disciplined person—but rather because he knew the passion of God.
How long are you willing to wait for the passions of your heart to be ignited into God’s holy purposes? Moses waited in the desert for forty years, tending sheep, asking himself many times, I’m sure, what he was doing there and why he had walked away from everything he had always known.
Then one day the Lord spoke to Moses from a burning bush. After several attempts to argue with God and even pleading, “Please send someone else,” Moses finally answered God’s call and changed the history of his people.
Later, when Moses entered the tabernacle, Exodus 33:11 tells us, “the LORD spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend.”
Moses became a friend of God.
Are you ready to see a burning bush?
Seeing life through God’s eyes might mean an exile in the wilderness. It may mean willingly being severed from the outward luxury of this world.
But the reward is to enter His transcendent presence, to be consumed by His love, to be made alive by His passion for you—and to realize that He sees you as someone with a grand purpose in life.
