“Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”— Colossians 3:2
Our feet may walk this earth, and gravity keeps us physically anchored, but to live healthy, spiritually whole lives, our minds must be in heaven. Which means, in our practical, everyday lives, we can set our minds to approach people, our jobs, and our daily tasks with a perspective that reflects God’s perspective.
“Set your mind” is almost an order.
Study God’s Word, pray, draw close to the Lord, and allow Him to pull you back up from the daily grind to see things from above.
Put your life in perspective.
See the bigger picture, the long view, and realize that today’s hassles and difficulties will be old news soon. Worry and anxiety do not need to consume your thoughts and dictate your state of mind.
I know that setting your mind on “things above” can be hard and needs to be practiced. I also know it will free you and help heal your fears and anxieties. Start with this reminder: the Bible says God raised us to sit in heavenly places with Jesus (Ephesians 2:6).
If we set our minds to sit every day with Jesus, immersed in His love, then what a different view of earth, people, and of life we will enjoy. This deeper connection with God brings a sense of contentment and satisfaction, enriching our lives in ways we never thought possible.
“If you read history, you will find that the Christians who did the most for the present world were just those who thought most of the next.” —C.S. Lewis
