“GO TO THE SEA, CAST IN A HOOK, AND TAKE THE FISH THAT COMES UP FIRST.” —MATTHEW 17:27

If you are fortunate enough to be part of a family business, you know the benefits of being able to pass down opportunities and jobs to other family members.

Have you ever considered that God wants to bring you in on the “family business?” To make you one of His partners?

Tax time was looming for Jesus and His disciples. As King of Creation, He didn’t technically owe taxes, and neither did God’s children. However, so as not to offend the authorities under whom they lived, Jesus sent Peter off on a fun errand.

He told him to go fishing! Peter was a fisherman, and Jesus sent him to do what he enjoyed and had always done. But now he was to do it for the glory of God. Now he could say, “I am fishing for the Lord.”

Jesus also gave him specific instructions. As a professional, Peter fished with nets. But here Jesus told him to fish with a line and a hook. He only needed to catch one fish. “Take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you.”

Jesus didn’t do this miracle by Himself. He included Peter in it. You and I can also become partners in the miraculous.

You may be an engineer, work in the fields of medicine, health, or research; you may be a teacher, a stay-at-home parent, waitress/waiter, cosmetologist, fast-food worker, or retail employee. Whatever you do, the Lord wants to sanctify your occupation and set it apart for His purpose. He wants to partner with you at your job!

Like Peter, you can also say, I am teaching, doctoring, waitressing, fill in your job title for the Lord! Then wait on Him to see what specific instructions He has for you. We, too, can become ministers of miracles in the lives of others.
